Usage Information

Take this medication with or without food. This medication is metabolized by the liver and excreted by the kidneys; therefore dosages may be adjusted in patients who are suffering from liver or kidney dysfunction. In order to get the most benefit from this medication, use it regularly.

Dosage

The dosage is based on your medical condition and response to therapy. Take this medication by mouth with breakfast or the first main meal, usually once daily. Some patients may be directed to take this drug twice a day.

Interactions

This drug should not be used with bosentan because very serious interactions may occur. Before using this medication, tell your doctor of all prescription and nonprescription medications you may use, especially of other diabetes drugs, aspirin, birth control pills, warfarin, diltiazem, chloramphenicol, clofibrate, corticosteroids, decongestants, estrogens, MAO inhibitors, rifampin.

Side Effects

Serious side effects are hepatitis, jaundice, and a low sodium concentration. Nausea, heartburn, stomach fullness, and weight gain may also occur. If any of these worsen, consult your doctor immediately.

Do not use this drug if you have had an allergic reaction to glyburide or if you have metabolic acidosis.
